Why does Bubble Bee use natural silk?

“Silk is often called the queen of textiles for its qualities and beauty”. Silk has been a symbol of luxury, tenderness and comfort. Yet many have not yet learned that much more is hidden behind this exquisite beauty.

But, what makes silk so valuable? How do you benefit from them? Are silk sheets worth it?

The short answer is always yes, silk sheets are definitely worth it. They’re pricey because silk production requires a lot of care and time. High quality silk bedding is a good investment because it’s very durable and comes with many health benefits for skin and hair. Not to mention that they look beautiful and feel luxurious.

The wonderful thing about high quality silk is that it naturally repels dirt, dust, oils and other grime that your bedding will accumulate. Silk bedding can thus be washed less often than traditional cotton or synthetic fibers.

Here are the different factors, that we recommend to consider when buying silk sheets to ensure that you get luxurious sleep each night.

Momme Count

Unlike other fabrics which use thread count to differentiate quality, silk uses traditionally momme count (mm) is the unit used to measure silk density or the quality since it has very fine threads.

One momme = 4.340 grams per square meter; 23 mommes is approximately 100 grams per square meter.

The higher the momme weight the heavier the fabric which means a greater amount of silk was used in the weaving process. For luxurious, high quality bedding, you’ll want to look starting from 22 mm since this is a good combination of durability and quality. All Bubble Bee silk beddings are made from the finest first class mulberry silk fabrics.

Fiber

High quality silk sheets have been made from long fibers since these are softer, smoother, more durable and they give off that nice, shimmering effect. Silk sheets that have broken fibers have a dull look.

Type

If you’re looking for the best quality, mulberry silk sheets are the only way to go. And they definitely are worth their price. Silken beddings made from 100% mulberry silk are most durable, smooth, soft and have less friction.

The unique thing about Mulberry silk is how it is produced. Because the silkworms of the Bombyx mori moth are fed only Mulberry leaves, the resulting silk is some of the finest available in the world. Pure white in color and made up of individual long fibers, Mulberry silk is more refined than other types of silk. Other types of silks such as wild silk or Habotai silk are less uniform in color and texture, with shorter strands.

Mulberry silk is the top choice. Make sure the manufacturer specifies this or it can be confirmed. If not, you may not end up being happy in the end.

Silk Is A Great Hypoallergenic Cloth

Silk is a material that is very agreeable with people who suffer from allergies and have sensitive skin. Most common linen materials exacerbate allergy symptoms, which can cause your daily life to be uncomfortable and frustrating. To mitigate ill effects from allergies, silk is used as a hypoallergenic material.

Silk fibers are spun in a cocoon by the common silkworm. The silk is naturally designed to keep the worm safe from predators, such as the dust mite. This happens to be one of the leading culprits of all allergy symptoms.  The protein sericin, organically repels the allergy inducing mite, and when woven into a cloth, it protects the allergy prone human as well.

For people with skin allergies, silk is also an excellent material alternative because it has long, smooth fibers that do not rub or irritate areas of the skin.  Most people suffer from clothing dermatitis, which is a condition that causes your skin to develop a rash after being exposed to a certain material.

Another major culprit of skin allergies are the chemical treatments used to die, stain, and style different types of fabric. Many of these chemicals are harsh and are hard to completely wash out of the material. Trace amounts of these chemical agents can cause severe skin reactions that are often uncomfortable and painful.  Silk is a material that does not require any chemical treatments to make is softer or more wearable. It is a natural wonder that has a smooth feel, without any chemical additives.

Lastly, silk is a material that resists the growth of mold, mildew, and fungi. Mold causes a myriad of negative allergy symptoms, and can even lead to extensive illnesses, if not mitigated. As previously stated, silk is naturally designed to keep the silk worm alive in its cocoon, so that it can grow into a mature silk moth. Fungus, mildew, and mold all have the capability of killing the silk worm before it reaches maturity, so through the evolutionary process, the silk worm has produced a mildew, mold, and fungus resistant cocoon material. Wearing the proper clothing, in conjunction with getting treatment from an allergist, you will be able to mitigate allergy symptoms.
